CHOICE
All major carriers

No obligation to enroll. Speak with a licensed agent only if you choose to.

03 / What we help with

The vocabulary, without the jargon.

Medicare Advantage
Also called Part C. A private plan that bundles your Part A and Part B coverage, and often prescription drugs and extras, into one plan with its own network of doctors.
Medicare Supplement
Also called Medigap. Works alongside Original Medicare to help cover costs it leaves behind, such as coinsurance and deductibles. Sold in standardized lettered plans.
Part D
Standalone prescription drug coverage you add to Original Medicare. Each plan has its own list of covered medications, called a formulary.
Enrollment timing
Medicare runs on fixed windows. Knowing which one applies to you determines when you can join, switch or drop a plan, and whether a late penalty could apply.
Cost comparison
Premiums are only part of the picture. Deductibles, copays, networks and drug tiers all shape what you actually pay over a year.
Extra Help / LIS
A federal program that can lower prescription drug costs for people with limited income and resources. Eligibility is based on your income and assets.

04 / When to enroll

Four moments that matter.

AROUND YOUR 65TH BIRTHDAY

Initial Enrollment

A seven-month window that begins three months before your birthday month. This is when most people first sign up.

OCT 15 – DEC 7

Annual Enrollment

Open to everyone on Medicare. Join, switch or drop a plan for the year ahead, with changes starting January 1.

JAN 1 – MAR 31

Advantage Open Enrollment

If you're already in a Medicare Advantage plan, you get one chance to change plans or return to Original Medicare.

AFTER A LIFE CHANGE

Special Enrollment

Moving, losing employer coverage or other qualifying events can open a window outside the usual dates.

05 / What affects your cost

Four things move the number.

01

Plan type

Advantage, Supplement and standalone drug plans are built differently. Each trades flexibility, network size and out-of-pocket structure in its own way.

02

Prescriptions you take

Every drug plan covers a different list at different tiers. The same medication can sit in very different places from one plan to the next.

03

Where you live

Medicare Advantage and Part D plans are sold county by county. Availability, networks and pricing depend on your ZIP code.

04

Extra benefits you want

Dental, vision, hearing, fitness and transportation extras vary widely. Adding them can change both the plan you pick and what it costs.

Because these factors are personal, the only reliable way to see your real options is to compare plans available at your address.

06 / Questions

Common questions.

Still unsure? A licensed agent can answer anything specific to your situation.

01Does Plansora cost anything to use?
No. Plansora is free for you to use. There is no fee to browse information or to be connected with a licensed insurance agent who can review plan options with you.
02What is the difference between Medicare Advantage and Medigap?
Medicare Advantage replaces how you receive your Medicare benefits through a private plan, usually with a network and often with drug coverage included. A Medicare Supplement (Medigap) policy instead works alongside Original Medicare to help pay costs it leaves behind. You cannot hold both at the same time.
03Do I have to enroll in a plan after comparing?
Not at all. There is no obligation. Many people compare first, ask questions, and decide later — or decide to keep the coverage they already have.
04Will my current doctors be covered?
It depends on the plan's network. Provider networks differ between plans and can change. A licensed agent can check whether specific doctors and facilities participate in the plans available to you.
05What happens if I miss my enrollment window?
You may have to wait for the next enrollment period, and late enrollment penalties can apply to some parts of Medicare. Certain life events, such as moving or losing employer coverage, may qualify you for a Special Enrollment Period.
06Who will I speak with?
If you choose to continue, you may be connected with a licensed insurance agent who can discuss plan options available in your area and answer questions about your specific situation.
